1950 The McMinnville UFO Case, Oregon

Considered to be Among the most Famous Photo Ever Taken of a UFO

McMinnville UFO photographs

The McMinnville UFO photographs were taken on a farm near McMinnville, Oregon in 1950. The photos were reprinted inLIFE magazine and in newspapers across the nation, and are often considered to be among the most famous ever taken of a UFO. The photos remain controversial, with many UFO researchers claiming they show a genuine, unidentified object in the sky, while many UFO skeptics claim that the photos are a hoax.

The incident

At 7:30 pm on May 11, 1950 Evelyn Trent was walking back to her farmhouse after feeding rabbits on her farm. Mrs. Trent and her husband Paul lived on a farm approximately nine miles from McMinnville. (Clark, p. 372) Before reaching the house she spotted a “slow-moving, metallic disk-shaped object heading in her direction from the northeast.” (Clark, 372) She yelled for her husband, who was inside the house, and he came out and also saw the object. After a short time he went back inside the house to obtain a camera. He managed to take two photos of the object before it sped away to the west; Paul Trent’s father also briefly viewed the object before it flew away. (Clark, 372)

Publicity and investigation

It took some time for Paul Trent to have the film developed, and he apparently sought no publicity immediately following the incident. (Clark, 373) When he mentioned the incident to his banker, Frank Wortmann, the banker was intrigued enough to display the photos from his bank window in McMinnville. (Clark, 373) Shortly afterwards Bill Powell, a local reporter, convinced Mr. Trent to loan him the negatives. Powell examined the negatives and found no evidence that they were tampered with or faked. (Clark, 373) On June 9, 1950 Powell’s story of the incident – accompanied by the two photos – was published in the local McMinnville newspaper. The story and photos were subsequently picked up by the International News Service (INS) and sent to other newspapers around the nation, thus giving them wide publicity. (Clark, 373) LIFE magazine published the photos in July 1950. The Trents had been promised that the negatives would be returned to them; however, they were not returned – LIFE magazine told the Trents that it had misplaced the negatives. (Clark, 373)

In 1967 the negatives were found in the files of the United Press International (UPI), a news service which had merged with INS years earlier. (Clark, 374) The negatives were then loaned to William Hartmann, an astronomer who was working as an investigator for the Condon Committee, a government-funded UFO research project based at the University of Colorado at Boulder. (Clark, 374) The Trents were not immediately informed that their “lost” negatives had been found. Hartmann interviewed the Trents and was impressed by their sincerity; the Trents never received any money for their photos, and he could find no evidence that they had sought any fame or fortune from them. (Clark, 375) In Hartmann’s analysis, he wrote to the Condon Committee that “This is one of the few UFO reports in which all factors investigated, geometric, psychological, and physical, appear to be consistent with the assertion that an extraordinary flying object, silvery, metallic, disk-shaped, tens of meters in diameter, and evidently artificial, flew within sight of two witnesses.” (Clark, 375)

After Hartmann concluded his investigation he returned the negatives to UPI, which then informed the Trents about them. In 1970 the Trents asked Philip Bladine, the editor of the McMinnville Register, for the negatives; the Trents noted that they had never been paid for the negatives and thus wanted them back. (Clark, 374) Bladine asked UPI to return the negatives, which it did. However, for some reason Bladine never told the Trents that the negatives had been returned. (Clark, 374) In 1975 the negatives were found in the files of the Register by Dr. Bruce Maccabee, an optical physicist for the U.S. Navy and a ufologist. Maccabee did his own extensive analysis of the negatives and concluded that they were not hoaxed and showed a “real, physical object” in the sky above the Trent’s farm. (Clark, 373) He then ensured that the negatives were finally returned to the Trents.

In the 1980s two UFO skeptics, Philip Klass and Robert Sheaffer, would argue that the photos were faked, and that the entire event was a hoax. Their primary argument was that shadows on a garage in the left-hand side of the photos proved that the photos were taken in the morning rather than in the early evening, as the Trents had claimed. Klass and Sheaffer argued that since the Trents had apparently lied about the time the photos were taken, their entire story was thus suspect. (Clark, 375) They believed that the Trents had suspended the “UFO” from power lines visible at the top of the photos; and that the object may have been the detached rear-view mirror of a vehicle. When Sheaffer sent his studies on the case to William Hartmann, Hartmann withdrew the positive assessment of the case he had sent to the Condon Committee. However, Dr. Maccabee offered a rebuttal to the Klass-Sheaffer theory by arguing that cloud conditions in the McMinnville area on the evening of the sighting could have caused the shadows, and that a close analysis of the UFO indicated that it was not suspended from the power lines and was in fact located some distance above the Trent’s farm; thus, in his opinion, the Klass-Sheaffer theory was flawed. (Clark, 375)

Aftermath

Today the Trent/McMinnville photographs remain among the best-publicized in UFO history; and are among the most-discussed and debated. To many ufologists, the two photos rate as being among the most reliable and persuasive in arguing for the existence of UFOs as a “real”, physical phenomenon. To many skeptics, however, the photos are likely hoaxes and/or fakes. Evelyn Trent died in 1997 and Paul Trent in 1998; they both insisted to their deaths that their sighting, and the photos, were genuine. The interest surrounding the Trent UFO photos led to an annual “UFO Festival” being established in McMinnville; it is now the largest such gathering in the Pacific Northwest, and is the second-largest UFO “festival” in the nation after the one held in Roswell, New Mexico.

Los Angeles, February 25, 1942, 02:25 PM-Alarm sirens installed in the event of a Japanese air raid are started as flying objects are seen and announced in the sky. A blackout is declared and the anxious and even terrified inhabitants follow the instructions by turning all the lights off. 03:16 PM Anti-aircraft guns open fire on the unidentified flying objects coming from the ocean, and projector beams are searching the sky. Witnesses observe small objects flying at high altitude, of red or silver plated color, moving in formation at high speed, and untouched by more than 150o large caliber artillery shells. This large object was unhurt by many AAA projectiles, according to the reports. Usually known as photograph from the Battle of Los Angeles.

Washington D. C. 1952. During the dawn of Ufology in the United States, unidentified flying objects made themselves known to the leaders of the free world, buzzing over the White House, the Capitol building, and the Pentagon. Seemingly the unknown objects were defying the very governmental agencies sworn to protect the United States from foreign powers. Washington National Airport and Andrews Air Force Base picked up a number of UFOs on their radar screens on July 19, 1952, beginning a wave of sightings, unexplained to this day.

Later, Project Blue Book reclassified the phenomenon as “unexplained.”

“The Russian Sleep Experiment” | IReadCreepyPastas

I am not sure how accurate the information on this video is but it is a very interesting watch.

Original story.

Russian researchers in the late 1940s kept five people awake for fifteen days using an experimental gas based stimulant. They were kept in a sealed environment to carefully monitor their oxygen intake so the gas didn’t kill them, since it was toxic in high concentrations. This was before closed circuit cameras so they had only microphones and 5 inch thick glass porthole sized windows into the chamber to monitor them. The chamber was stocked with books, cots to sleep on but no bedding, running water and toilet, and enough dried food to last all five for over a month.

The test subjects were political prisoners deemed enemies of the state during World War II.

Everything was fine for the first five days; the subjects hardly complained having been promised (falsely) that they would be freed if they submitted to the test and did not sleep for 30 days. Their conversations and activities were monitored and it was noted that they continued to talk about increasingly traumatic incidents in their past, and the general tone of their conversations took on a darker aspect after the 4 day mark.

After five days they started to complain about the circumstances and events that lead them to where they were and started to demonstrate severe paranoia. They stopped talking to each other and began alternately whispering to the microphones and one way mirrored portholes. Oddly they all seemed to think they could win the trust of the experimenters by turning over their comrades, the other subjects in captivity with them. At first the researchers suspected this was an effect of the gas itself…

After nine days the first of them started screaming. He ran the length of the chamber repeatedly yelling at the top of his lungs for 3 hours straight, he continued attempting to scream but was only able to produce occasional squeaks. The researchers postulated that he had physically torn his vocal cords. The most surprising thing about this behavior is how the other captives reacted to it… or rather didn’t react to it. They continued whispering to the microphones until the second of the captives started to scream. The 2 non-screaming captives took the books apart, smeared page after page with their own feces and pasted them calmly over the glass portholes. The screaming promptly stopped.

So did the whispering to the microphones.

After 3 more days passed. The researchers checked the microphones hourly to make sure they were working, since they thought it impossible that no sound could be coming with 5 people inside. The oxygen consumption in the chamber indicated that all 5 must still be alive. In fact it was the amount of oxygen 5 people would consume at a very heavy level of strenuous exercise. On the morning of the 14th day the researchers did something they said they would not do to get a reaction from the captives, they used the intercom inside the chamber, hoping to provoke any response from the captives they were afraid were either dead or vegetables.

They announced: “We are opening the chamber to test the microphones; step away from the door and lie flat on the floor or you will be shot. Compliance will earn one of you your immediate freedom.”

To their surprise they heard a single phrase in a calm voice response: “We no longer want to be freed.”

Debate broke out among the researchers and the military forces funding the research. Unable to provoke any more response using the intercom it was finally decided to open the chamber at midnight on the fifteenth day.

The chamber was flushed of the stimulant gas and filled with fresh air and immediately voices from the microphones began to object. 3 different voices began begging, as if pleading for the life of loved ones to turn the gas back on. The chamber was opened and soldiers sent in to retrieve the test subjects. They began to scream louder than ever, and so did the soldiers when they saw what was inside. Four of the five subjects were still alive, although no one could rightly call the state that any of them in ‘life.’

The food rations past day 5 had not been so much as touched. There were chunks of meat from the dead test subject’s thighs and chest stuffed into the drain in the center of the chamber, blocking the drain and allowing 4 inches of water to accumulate on the floor. Precisely how much of the water on the floor was actually blood was never determined. All four ‘surviving’ test subjects also had large portions of muscle and skin torn away from their bodies. The destruction of flesh and exposed bone on their finger tips indicated that the wounds were inflicted by hand, not with teeth as the researchers initially thought. Closer examination of the position and angles of the wounds indicated that most if not all of them were self-inflicted.

The abdominal organs below the ribcage of all four test subjects had been removed. While the heart, lungs and diaphragm remained in place, the skin and most of the muscles attached to the ribs had been ripped off, exposing the lungs through the ribcage. All the blood vessels and organs remained intact, they had just been taken out and laid on the floor, fanning out around the eviscerated but still living bodies of the subjects. The digestive tract of all four could be seen to be working, digesting food. It quickly became apparent that what they were digesting was their own flesh that they had ripped off and eaten over the course of days.

Most of the soldiers were Russian special operatives at the facility, but still many refused to return to the chamber to remove the test subjects. They continued to scream to be left in the chamber and alternately begged and demanded that the gas be turned back on, lest they fall asleep…

To everyone’s surprise the test subjects put up a fierce fight in the process of being removed from the chamber. One of the Russian soldiers died from having his throat ripped out, another was gravely injured by having his testicles ripped off and an artery in his leg severed by one of the subject’s teeth. Another 5 of the soldiers lost their lives if you count ones that committed suicide in the weeks following the incident.

In the struggle one of the four living subjects had his spleen ruptured and he bled out almost immediately. The medical researchers attempted to sedate him but this proved impossible. He was injected with more than ten times the human dose of a morphine derivative and still fought like a cornered animal, breaking the ribs and arm of one doctor. When heart was seen to beat for a full two minutes after he had bled out to the point there was more air in his vascular system than blood. Even after it stopped he continued to scream and flail for another 3 minutes, struggling to attack anyone in reach and just repeating the word “MORE” over and over, weaker and weaker, until he finally fell silent.

The surviving three test subjects were heavily restrained and moved to a medical facility, the two with intact vocal cords continuously begging for the gas demanding to be kept awake…

The most injured of the three was taken to the only surgical operating room that the facility had. In the process of preparing the subject to have his organs placed back within his body it was found that he was effectively immune to the sedative they had given him to prepare him for the surgery. He fought furiously against his restraints when the anesthetic gas was brought out to put him under. He managed to tear most of the way through a 4 inch wide leather strap on one wrist, even through the weight of a 200 pound soldier holding that wrist as well. It took only a little more anesthetic than normal to put him under, and the instant his eyelids fluttered and closed, his heart stopped. In the autopsy of the test subject that died on the operating table it was found that his blood had triple the normal level of oxygen. His muscles that were still attached to his skeleton were badly torn and he had broken 9 bones in his struggle to not be subdued. Most of them were from the force his own muscles had exerted on them.

The second survivor had been the first of the group of five to start screaming. His vocal cords destroyed he was unable to beg or object to surgery, and he only reacted by shaking his head violently in disapproval when the anesthetic gas was brought near him. He shook his head yes when someone suggested, reluctantly, they try the surgery without anesthetic, and did not react for the entire 6 hour procedure of replacing his abdominal organs and attempting to cover them with what remained of his skin. The surgeon presiding stated repeatedly that it should be medically possible for the patient to still be alive. One terrified nurse assisting the surgery stated that she had seen the patients mouth curl into a smile several times, whenever his eyes met hers.

When the surgery ended the subject looked at the surgeon and began to wheeze loudly, attempting to talk while struggling. Assuming this must be something of drastic importance the surgeon had a pen and pad fetched so the patient could write his message. It was simple. “Keep cutting.”

The other two test subjects were given the same surgery, both without anesthetic as well. Although they had to be injected with a paralytic for the duration of the operation. The surgeon found it impossible to perform the operation while the patients laughed continuously. Once paralyzed the subjects could only follow the attending researchers with their eyes. The paralytic cleared their system in an abnormally short period of time and they were soon trying to escape their bonds. The moment they could speak they were again asking for the stimulant gas. The researchers tried asking why they had injured themselves, why they had ripped out their own guts and why they wanted to be given the gas again.

Only one response was given: “I must remain awake.”

All three subject’s restraints were reinforced and they were placed back into the chamber awaiting determination as to what should be done with them. The researchers, facing the wrath of their military ‘benefactors’ for having failed the stated goals of their project considered euthanizing the surviving subjects. The commanding officer, an ex-KGB instead saw potential, and wanted to see what would happen if they were put back on the gas. The researchers strongly objected, but were overruled.

In preparation for being sealed in the chamber again the subjects were connected to an EEG monitor and had their restraints padded for long term confinement. To everyone’s surprise all three stopped struggling the moment it was let slip that they were going back on the gas. It was obvious that at this point all three were putting up a great struggle to stay awake. One of subjects that could speak was humming loudly and continuously; the mute subject was straining his legs against the leather bonds with all his might, first left, then right, then left again for something to focus on. The remaining subject was holding his head off his pillow and blinking rapidly. Having been the first to be wired for EEG most of the researchers were monitoring his brain waves in surprise. They were normal most of the time but sometimes flat lined inexplicably. It looked as if he were repeatedly suffering brain death, before returning to normal. As they focused on paper scrolling out of the brainwave monitor only one nurse saw his eyes slip shut at the same moment his head hit the pillow. His brainwaves immediately changed to that of deep sleep, then flatlined for the last time as his heart simultaneously stopped.

The only remaining subject that could speak started screaming to be sealed in now. His brainwaves showed the same flatlines as one who had just died from falling asleep. The commander gave the order to seal the chamber with both subjects inside, as well as 3 researchers. One of the named three immediately drew his gun and shot the commander point blank between the eyes, then turned the gun on the mute subject and blew his brains out as well.

He pointed his gun at the remaining subject, still restrained to a bed as the remaining members of the medical and research team fled the room. “I won’t be locked in here with these things! Not with you!” he screamed at the man strapped to the table. “WHAT ARE YOU?” he demanded. “I must know!”

The subject smiled.

“Have you forgotten so easily?” The subject asked. “We are you. We are the madness that lurks within you all, begging to be free at every moment in your deepest animal mind. We are what you hide from in your beds every night. We are what you sedate into silence and paralysis when you go to the nocturnal haven where we cannot tread.”

The researcher paused. Then aimed at the subject’s heart and fired. The EEG flatlined as the subject weakly choked out, “So… nearly… free…”

911 CONSPIRACY THEORIES AND FACTS.

NEW Loose Change 3rd Edition! MUST SEE! 9/11 Truth

9/11 conspiracy theories are conspiracy theories that disagree with the widely accepted account that the September 11 attacks were perpetrated solely by al-Qaeda, without any detailed advanced knowledge on the part of any government agency. Proponents of these conspiracy theories claim there are inconsistencies in the official conclusions, or evidence which was overlooked. In a 2008 global poll of 16,063 people in 17 countries, majorities in only nine countries believe al Qaeda was behind the attacks. 46% of those surveyed believed al-Qaeda was responsible for the attacks, 15% believed the U.S. government was responsible, 7% believed Israel was and another 7% believed some other perpetrator, other than al Qaeda, was responsible. The poll found that respondents in the Middle East were especially likely to name a perpetrator other than Al-Qaeda.
The most prominent conspiracy theory is that the collapse of the Twin Towers and 7 World Trade Center were the result of a controlled demolition rather than structural failure due to fire. Another prominent belief is that the Pentagon was hit by a missile launched by elements from inside the U.S. government or that a commercial airliner was allowed to do so via an effective standdown of the American military. Possible motives claimed by conspiracy theorists for such actions include justifying the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq as well as geostrategic interests in the Mideast, such as pipeline plans launched in the early 1990s by Unocal and other oil companies. Other conspiracy theories revolve around authorities having advance knowledge of the attacks and deliberately ignoring or helping to assist the attackers.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and media outlets such as Popular Mechanics have investigated and rejected the claims made by 9/11 conspiracy theories. The civil engineering community accepts that the impacts of jet aircraft at high speeds in combination with subsequent fires, not controlled demolition, led to the collapse of the Twin Towers.

BEST 9/11 Documentary: If You Seek TRUTH, WATCH THIS

My wish is that each and every one of you take the time to watch this video from start to finish. If you disagree with an assumed instinctive motive of the video, hold out til the end to make your judgements. We must come to understand our country’s place in this world. In the wake of this American conflict with Syria in 2013, and on the verge of the 12th Anniversary of the this terror attack of 9/11/2001 with still no answers to be had, we must rise up against tyranny and try our war criminals for treason! America is waking up! Don’t be asleep and ignorant. I pray that you will overcome your brainwashed state that the mainstream media has placed you in! A lot of us were in that state of mind just recently, but the 2013 Boston Marathon explosions were such a government involved, patsy operation that they woke a lot of us up and led us on a trail to all truth! It opened a lot of our eyes to this Syria Chemical Weapons attack as to who was ACTUALLY responsible. We hope the truth finds you as well! Pay close attention to the end of the video regarding Al-Qaeda!!!

CIA Insider Tells 9/11 Truth

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-cGbEwfx20

The official story of September 11th is like a bag full of lies and this seems to be a proven fact for the alternative community. What did really happen? A new series of revelations shocked even the ones who believed to have a clear view behind the curtain.

When ordinary people saw how two planes struck the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York and how the Twins Towers then collapsed in clouds of dust during 9/11 events, they were too shocked by the incidents to subject the events to any level of scrutiny. Since then, the strange notion has been embedded into the people’s minds: that hollow aluminum planes could allegedly penetrate thick steel buildings in their entirety, and that aviation fuel (kerosene) could allegedly “melt” these steel buildings into fluffy microscopic dust…

HARRY PATCH QUOTES.

harry-patch

Henry John “Harry” Patch (17 June 1898 – 25 July 2009), dubbed in his latter years “the Last Fighting Tommy”, was a British supercentenarian, briefly the oldest man in Europe and the last surviving soldier known to have fought in the trenches of the First World War.[1] Patch was, with Claude Choules and Florence Green, one of the last three surviving British veterans of the First World War and with Frank Buckles and John Babcock, one of the five last known veterans in the world.[2] At the time of his death, aged 111 years, 1 month, 1 week and 1 day, Patch was the third-oldest man in the world, the oldest man in Europe and the 77th oldest man ever.

Patch was born in the village of Combe Down, near Bath, Somerset, England. He appears in the 1901 Census as a two-year-old boy along with his stonemason father William John Patch, mother Elizabeth Ann (née Morris) and older brothers George Frederick and William Thomas at a house called “Fonthill”.[3] The family are recorded at the same address “Fonthill Cottage” in the 1911 census.[4] His elder brothers are recorded as a carpenter and banker mason. Longevity ran in Patch’s family; his father lived to 82, his mother to 94, his brother George to 95 and his brother William to 87. Patch left school in 1913 and became an apprentice plumber in Bath.[5][6]

In October 1916, he was conscripted as a private into the British Army, reporting for duty at Tolland Barracks, Taunton. During the winter of 1916–17 he was promoted lance-corporal but was demoted after a fist fight with a soldier, who had taken his boots from his billet and saw no further promotion.[7] Patch went through a series of short-lived attachments to several regiments, including the Royal Warwickshire Regiment before being posted after completing training to the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry, serving as an assistant gunner in a Lewis Gun section.[8] Patch arrived in France in June 1917.[9] He fought at the Battle of Passchendaele (also known as the Third Battle of Ypres) and was injured in the groin, when a shell exploded overhead at 22:30 on 22 September 1917, killing three of his comrades. He was removed from the front line and returned to England on 23 December 1917.[9] Patch referred to 22 September as his personal Remembrance Day. He was still convalescing on the Isle of Wight when the Armistice was declared the following November.[10]

When the war ended, I don’t know if I was more relieved that we’d won or that I didn’t have to go back. Passchendaele was a disastrous battle – thousands and thousands of young lives were lost. It makes me angry. Earlier this year, I went back to Ypres to shake the hand of Charles Kuentz, Germany’s only surviving veteran from the war. It was emotional. He is 107. We’ve had 87 years to think what war is. To me, it’s a licence to go out and murder. Why should the British government call me up and take me out to a battlefield to shoot a man I never knew, whose language I couldn’t speak? All those lives lost for a war finished over a table. Now what is the sense in that?[11]

— Harry Patch

After the war, Patch returned to work as a plumber, during which time he spent four years working on the Wills Memorial Building in Bristol, before becoming manager of the plumbing company’s branch in Bristol.[12] A year above the age to be called up for military service at the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939, he became a part-timefireman in Bath, dealing with the Baedeker raids.[12] [13] Later in the war he moved to Street, Somerset, where he ran a plumbing company until his retirement at the age of 65.[12]

On 13 September 1919, Patch married, at Hadley, Shropshire, Ada Billington, who died in 1976.[14] They had two sons, both of whom predeceased him: Dennis, who died in 1984 and Roy, who died in 2002.[5] At 81, he married his second wife, Jean, who died in 1984. His third partner, Doris Whittaker, who lived in the same nursing home as him, died in 2007.[15]

Last Tommy

Patch had refused to discuss his war experiences, until approached in 1998 for the BBC One documentary Veterans, on reflection of which and with the realisation that he was part of a fast dwindling group of veterans of “the war to end all wars”.[10]

Patch was featured in the 2003 television series World War 1 in Colour and said “if any man tells you he went over the top and he wasn’t scared, he’s a damn liar.” He reflected on his lost friends and the moment when he came face to face with a German soldier. He recalled the story of Moses descending from Mount Sinai with God’s Ten Commandments, including “Thou shalt not kill” and could not bring himself to kill the German. Instead, he shot him in the shoulder, which made the soldier drop his rifle. However, he had to carry on running towards his Lewis Gun, so to proceed, he shot him above the knee, and in the ankle. Patch said,

I had about five seconds to make the decision. I brought him down, but I didn’t kill him…. Any one of them could have been me. Millions of men came to fight in this war and I find it incredible that I am the only one left.
—Commenting on graves at a Flanders war cemetery, July 2007.[16]

In November 2004, at the age of 106, Patch met Charles Kuentz, a 107-year-old Alsatian veteran, who had fought on the German side at Passchendaele (and served on the French side in World War II).[17] Patch was quoted as saying: “I was a bit doubtful before meeting a German soldier. Herr Kuentz is a very nice gentleman however. He is all for a united Europe and peace – and so am I”. Kuentz had brought along a tin of Alsatian biscuits and Patch gave him a bottle of Somerset cider in return.[18] The meeting was featured in a 2005 BBC TV programme The Last Tommy, which told the story of six of the World War I veterans still alive.[19]

In December 2004, Patch was given a present of 106 bottles of Patch’s Pride Cider, which has been named after him and produced by the Gaymer Cider Company.[20] In the spring of 2005 he was interviewed by the Todayprogramme, in which he said of the First World War: “Too many died. War isn’t worth one life” and in July 2005, Patch voiced his outrage over plans to build a motorway in northern France over cemeteries of the First World War.

On 16 December 2005, Patch was awarded an honorary degree by the University of Bristol, whose buildings he helped construct in the 1920s.[21] [22] The University’s newly restored Wills Memorial Building was reopened by Patch on 20 February 2008. He was chosen for this honour as he was a member of the workforce that originally helped build the tower, which was opened on 9 June 1925 by King George V, an event which Patch also attended.[23]

In July 2007, marking the 90th anniversary of the beginning of the Battle of Passchendaele, Patch revisited the site of the battle in Flanders, to pay his respects to the fallen on both sides. He was accompanied by a historian,Richard van Emden. On this occasion, Patch described war as the “calculated and condoned slaughter of human beings” and said that “war isn’t worth one life.”[24]

In August 2007, Patch’s autobiography The Last Fighting Tommy was published, making him one of the oldest authors ever.[25] With the proceeds from this book, Patch decided to fund an Inshore Lifeboat for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) and he attended the RNLI’s Lifeboat College on 20 July 2007, to officially name the boat The Doris and Harry.[26]

In February 2008, the poet laureate of the United Kingdom Andrew Motion, was commissioned by the BBC West television programme Inside Out West, to write a poem in Patch’s honour. Entitled “The Five Acts of Harry Patch” it was first read at a special event at the Bishop’s Palace in Wells, where it was introduced by the Prince of Wales and received by Harry Patch.[27][28]

In July 2008, Wells City Council conferred the freedom of the city of Wells on Patch.[29] On 27 September 2008, in a private ceremony attended by a few people, Patch opened a memorial on the bank of the Steenbeek, at the point where he crossed the river in 1917. The memorial reads,

Here, at dawn, on 16 August 1917, the 7th Battalion, Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry, 20th (Light) Division, crossed the Steenbeek prior to their successful assault on the village on Langemarck. This stone is erected to the memory of fallen comrades, and to honour the courage, sacrifice and passing of the Great War generation. It is the gift of former Private and Lewis Gunner Harry Patch, No. 29295, C Company, 7th DCLI, the last surviving veteran to have served in the trenches of the Western Front.”[30]

In October 2008, Patch launched the 2008 Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal in Somerset.[31] On 11 November 2008, marking the 90th anniversary of the end of World War I, together with fellow veterans Henry Allingham and Bill Stone, Patch laid a commemorative wreath for the Act of Remembrance at The Cenotaph in London, escorted by Victoria Cross recipient Johnson Beharry.[32]

On 9 November 2008, the Master of the Queen’s Music, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies attended the world premiere of his choral work paying tribute to Patch. The piece sets words by the Poet Laureate, Andrew Motion and was performed at Portsmouth Cathedral by the London Mozart Players, the Portsmouth Grammar School chamber choir and the cathedral’s choristers. The creation of the work was featured in A poem for Harry, a BBC Westdocumentary that was subsequently repeated on BBC Four. The programme won a gold medal at the New York Festivals International Television Programming and Promotion Awards.[33]

On 18 July 2009, with the death of Henry Allingham, Patch became the oldest surviving veteran and also the oldest man in the United Kingdom.[34] Patch was the last trench veteran of World War I. The penultimate Western Frontveteran, the 108-year-old Fernand Goux of France, who died on 9 November 2008, fought for 8 days. He came out unscathed, unlike Patch and the last Alpine Front veteran, 110-year-old Delfino Borroni of Italy, who died on 26 October 2008. Patch was also the last surviving Tommy, since the death on 4 April 2009 of Netherwood Hughes, who was still in training when the war ended. The penultimate fighting Tommy, Andrew Rigby, died on 9 June 2006, the week before Patch’s 108th birthday. Claude Choules, the last remaining First World War naval veteran, died on 5 May 2011.[35]

We came across a lad from A company. He was ripped open from his shoulder to his waist by shrapnel and lying in a pool of blood. When we got to him, he said: ‘Shoot me’. He was beyond human help and, before we could draw a revolver, he was dead. And the final word he uttered was ‘Mother.’ I remember that lad in particular. It’s an image that has haunted me all my life, seared into my mind.
—An extract from Patch’s book The Last Fighting Tommy which was read out at his funeral by Marie-France André, the chargé d’affaires of the Belgian embassy, August 2009.[36]

Medals

Harry Patch received eight medals and honours; for his service in the First World War he received the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.[37] In 1998, as a surviving veteran of the First World War, who had fought for the Allies in France and Flanders, the President of the Republic of France a Knight of the Légion d’honneur. The award was presented to Patch on his 101st birthday. On 9 March 2009, Patch was appointed an Officer of the Légion d’honneur by the French Ambassador at his nursing home in Somerset.[38] On 7 January 2008, Albert II, King of the Belgians, conferred upon Patch the award of Knight of the Order of Leopold. He received the award from Jean-Michel Veranneman de Watervliet, Belgium’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, at a ceremony in the Ambassador’s residence in London, on 22 September 2008, which coincidentally was the 91st anniversary of the day he waswounded in action and three of his closest friends killed.[39]

For service during the Second World War, Patch was awarded the 1939–45 Defence Medal. This was subsequently lost and on 20 September 2008, at a ceremony at Bath Fire Station, Patch was presented with a replacement medal.[40] Patch also received two commemorative medals: the National Service Medal and the Hors de combat medal, which signifies outstanding bravery of servicemen and women, who have sustained wounds or injury in the line of duty. The medals are unofficial and not a part of the official order of wear in any Commonwealth realm. In accordance with his wishes, Harry Patch’s medals are displayed at the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry Museum inBodmin.[41]

Death

Patch died at 9 a.m. on 25 July 2009, aged 111 years, one month, one week and one day. This was also seven days after the death of fellow veteran Henry Allingham, who was at the time aged 113. The Prince of Wales led the tributes to him, saying: “Today, nothing could give me greater pride than paying tribute to Harry Patch, of Somerset.”[1] Patch was the last male First World War veteran living in Europe and the last British male known to have been born in the 1890s.

Funeral

Harry Patch’s funeral procession

Patch’s funeral was held in Wells Cathedral on Thursday 6 August 2009.[42][43] At 11.00 a.m., the bells of Wells Cathedral were rung 111 times to mark each year of his life. A quarter peal of Grandsire Caters was also rung, half muffled, while quarter-peals were also rung in Bristol and at several churches around the country.[44][45] His coffin travelled from his home, Fletcher House, to the cathedral where the service commenced at noon.[46] The theme of the service was “Peace and Reconciliation” and in addition to pallbearers from The Rifles (the successor regiment to the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry), Patch’s coffin was accompanied by two private soldiers from each of the armies of Belgium, France and Germany.[43]

In accordance with Patch’s instructions, no guns were allowed at the funeral and even the officiating soldiers did not have their ceremonial weapons.[47] Due to public interest in the funeral, which was broadcast live on TV and radio, 1,050 tickets were made available for the service.[43] Some, wanting to pay their respects, slept overnight on the Cathedral Green in order to get tickets.[48] The funeral was led by the Dean of Wells, The Very Revd John Clarke and the Bishop of Taunton, The Rt Revd Peter David Maurice.[46] Among notables to attend the funeral were The Duchess of Cornwall and The Duchess of Gloucester. Patch was buried at St Michael’s Church, Monkton Combe, near his parents and brother.

Legacy

Race horse trainer and owner Michael Jarvis named a horse after Patch in 2008. Having bought the horse in October 2007, during that year’s Poppy Appeal, the Newmarket trainer decided to name him after a First World War veteran. Michael’s daughter suggested Patch after reading an article about him.[49] The horse won the 1.30 at Doncaster racecourse on 8 November 2008, the day before Remembrance Sunday. A commemorative plaque in Patch’s memory is to be placed on the Guildhall in Bath.[50]

The BBC commissioned Carol Ann Duffy, the Poet Laureate, to write a poem to mark the deaths of Patch and Henry Allingham (who died one week before Patch, on 18 July 2009). The result, Last Post, was read by Duffy on theToday programme on BBC Radio 4 on 30 July 2009, the day of Allingham’s funeral.[51]

On 5 August 2009, Radiohead released the song “Harry Patch (In Memory Of)” and lead singer Thom Yorke explained that the song was inspired by “a very emotional interview with him” in 2005, on the Today programme on BBC Radio 4. The song was sold direct from Radiohead’s website for £1, with proceeds donated to the British Legion.[52][53]

In early summer 2009, Harry recorded some spoken word parts for UK heavy metal band Imperial Vengeance, to be included on the title track to the album At the Going Down of the Sun. The song was about the horrors of the trenches and Patch read part of the poem For the Fallen.[54]

The former UK Poet Laureate, Andrew Motion composed a poem, The Death of Harry Patch, which he read for the first time on The World at One Radio 4 programme on Armistice Day 2010.[55]

How YOU can vote tactically to keep out Red Ed: Constituency by constituency guide to the 50 key seats that will help keep Labour out of Number 10

  • Guide to the 50 key constituency seats revealed with tactical switches unveiled for those wanting to stop Labour
  • Most key seats listed are situated in the north of England and the Midlands as voters prepare to take to the polls
  • 29 seats where Tories have improved chance if getting Ukip sympathisers and 12 where Tories can help Lib Dems

Tomorrow, voters go to the polls in the closest election for four decades.

Labour’s collapse in Scotland means Ed Miliband will almost certainly miss out on the 323 seats needed for a majority.

For millions, the nightmare is a minority Labour administration propped up by the SNP — which is demanding a £148billion debt binge to pay for more spending and welfare.

Here, JAMES SLACK and IAN DRURY detail the 50 seats in which tactical voting could prevent a Labour/SNP alliance having enough to run Britain — and keep Red Ed out of No. 10.

Scroll down for video

In all the seats outside Scotland, they are constituencies in which Labour is either first or second and desperately needs to win. Crucial to the success of tactical voting is reuniting the conservative Right.

There are 29 seats where the Tories have a vastly improved chance of success if they can win the support of Ukip sympathisers.

There are also two Labour seats in the North of England where Cameron’s party cannot realistically win — but Ukip can, so Tory sympathisers should vote for Nigel Farage’s party.

If the Tories do fall short of an overall majority, ensuring Lib Dem candidates beat Labour rivals increases the chances of Nick Clegg’s party having enough seats to form another Coalition with the Tories.

There are 12 seats where Tory voters can help the Liberal Democrats beat Labour. The Lib Dems can reciprocate by voting Tory in three Conservative/Labour marginals.

And there are four seats where Lib Dem and Ukip supporters could vote blue to defeat Labour . . .

Revealed: How Miliband could grab power even if he loses the election by winning fewer votes AND seats than Cameron

  • The party with the most MPs almost always forms the government
  • But the surge of the Scottish nationalists has turned this on its head
  • The SNP has vowed to work with Labour to ‘lock’ the Tories out of power
  • It means Cameron could finish first but not have enough MPs to stay on
  • Labour’s Andy Burnham this morning admitted the party would ‘do whatever it takes’ to get Mr Miliband into Downing Street
  • But the Chancellor George Osborne insisted the PM could stay in position even if the Coalition lost its majority on Thursday

SCOTTISH POWER LTD SHOULD BE STOPPED.

Scottish Power Ltd. is a vertically integrated energy company with its headquarters in Glasgow, Scotland. It was once a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index but in 2006 it became a subsidiary of the Spanish utility Iberdrola.

Iberdrola (Spanish pronunciation: [iβerˈðɾola]) is a Spanish public multinational electric utility company based in Bilbao, Basque Country. Iberdrola has a workforce of around 31,330 employees in dozens of countries on four continents serving around 31,67 million customers. Subsidiaries include Scottish Power (Scotland), Iberdrola USA (United States) and Elektro (Brazil), amongst others. The largest shareholder of the company was, in 2013, Qatar Investment Holding; other significant shareholders are ACS, Kutxabank and Bankia.

Iberdrola made over €2.5 billion profit in 2013 and have total assets worth €92 billion according to Wikipedia, despite this huge profit Iberdrola rip people off on a daily basis, Scottish Power is a disgrace, they put meters in council houses and then charge people that live in council houses a fortune, in some cases three or four times as much as those that pay quarterly bills! A friend informed me on how bad Scottish power are after telling me of his families experience of them and when we Google “Scottish power rip off” and we discover that he is not the only person that feels ripped off by Scottish Power.

There are 503 reviews for Scottish power on trust pilot, Scottish power have a score of 0.2 out of ten! Read first page of reviews below. As far as I can see EVERY REVIEW IS ONE STAR ON EVERY PAGE IS ONE STAR, WITH ANGRY RANTS EVERYWHERE. Scottish Power seem to be ripping off a lot of people, a strong government would act on important issues like these, if you have 503 star reviews and angry rants as a business and not one (as far as I can see definitely not above 10) positive comment or reviews you are obviously either useless, extortionists or both.

Absolutely appalling

I was with this company in my new build property and quickly changed to EDF, Scottish power took so long to send me my final bill and still send me bills now. I was with them over the summer months but they charged me over £150 for such a short period. When they sent me my final bill I still received two more bills after that, I think they definitely ripped me off

don’t use Scottish power

If I listed my complaints I would have a novel longer than the Lord of the rings,
and it spans almost as long in its saga. Please don’t use them as your supplier you will regret it. The bills are wrong, they misinform you and you normally wait an hour to talk to someone who then can’t help and their email addresses bounce back . They have been fined by trading standards in previous years I hope the company is investigated again, because I believe they will be fined again. I have had to resort to 3Rd parties to help resolve my Issues. I do not believe I will get adequate compensation for the hours which amounts to days I have lost dealing with them.

TOTALLY AND UTTERLY APPALLING

My husband and I purchased a flat to renovate in March with a view to renting it out and the outgoing tenant used a pre-payment key with Scottish Power. I rang Scottish Power to arrange for a meter to be installed, but as this takes 3 weeks I asked for a pre-payment key so we could commence renovations. We live in Essex and it was totally impossible to purchase a pre-payment key so they sent us one by post. This wasted a week and we had builders, plumbers etc. lined up to go in but no work could undertaken as we had no electricity. We finally received the pre-payment key and it was then a challenge to find anywhere to use it! We finally found a local newsagent to load up the key and were able to start work. As the flat is going to the rented out I decided to stay with Scottish Power and applied for a normal electricity meter with quarterly billing. I waited at the flat for 5 hours on the 30 March 2015 (appointment confirmed in writing) for an engineer to change the pre-payment system to a normal meter, nobody turned up, nobody rang to explain why. I telephoned Scottish Power and was given another date of 23 April 2015, I complained very strongly about this and was promised a telephone call on the Tuesday after Easter to try and bring this forward. Needless to say I never received a follow up call on the Tuesday and felt so uneasy about being let down again that I rang Scottish Power again to check whether somebody would be coming on the 23 April (this new appointment had been confirmed in writing). I telephoned Scottish Power again and was told that the two previous Call Centre operatives had filled in the WRONG form on-line and that NOBODY was ever going to come out to fit the meter as the flat has Economy 7 and the forms did not state that a 2 rate credit meter was required, so Eastern Electricity apparently ignored the two requests, so I am told by Scottish Power if that is to be believed. I was very angry but the call centre operator told me to stop going around in circles! I work for myself so have already suffered loss of earnings. I have had incredible amounts of my time wasted on the telephone. A new date was agreed for the meter to be installed on Tuesday 5 May, and I awaited confirmation by letter. No confirmation was received but a message was left on my answerphone stating that the appointment was confirmed but I was required to be there ALL DAY. I work for myself, have school runs to do, care for my elderly disabled mother, and I was expected to wait all day for this new meter. I would have had to wait outside the flat as the tenants have moved in. Today, Friday 1 May 2015 I returned home to a message on my answerphone from Scottish Power stating that the installation of the meter has been cancelled due to no engineers being available. I rang Scottish Power who gave me the usual rubbish and that my complaint would be emailed through to another department. My tenants moved in yesterday Thursday 30 April and have no electric meter. It took my husband and I 4 weeks to totally renovate this flat and it is now three months and I still have no electricity meter for my new tenants, a meter which I paid for in March.Scottish Power are beyond useless. In this day and age how can it be so difficult to obtain a simple electricity meter, it is off the scale incompetence. The only other company who are worse are British Telecom.Take note executives of Scottish Power, failure to heed poor reviews will be your downfall and Scottish Power will be consigned to history.I will be continuing my review.

If i could give 0 stars I would!

Over a relatively short period time…6 months….so many mistakes on my account. They set up direct debits without my permission, one of which was for a pre payment meter!! The online complaints service just resulted in me having to repeat information over and over again…as with the phone service. Customer services obviously very poorly trained. No one there seems to know what they are doing and some are just plain rude. 6 weeks after raising a complaint and numerous promises of call backs that never materialised I have moved to a different company.

THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER

I have been emailing Scottish Power since Dec 14 in an attempt to get my meter changed but so far all I have had is their standard email saying they looking into my complaint. Nothing else has happened and am now referring them to the Ombudsman. No point telephoning because you are constantly put on hold.
This is the worst energy supplier and I would not recommend using them.
We will definitely be cancelling our contract at the end of the contract period. I would rather pay more and get a decent service.

Internet account access is rubbish! Mine us still showing my old closed accounts from years ago and they cant get my current accounts to show on it. At least 20 mins wait on telephone every time I call in.
Get your act together Scottish Power!!

dreadful!

ive had 5 bills in 3 weeks all of them which are wrong, when you try to call them its a thirty minute wait while they talk to their manager to ammend what are quite clearly incorrect bills! 300 pound for 2 weeks of gas and electric when i turned them off the day i got the keys to the house seemed a bit steep to say there wasnt even a supply to the house! cut me off after half an hour on the phone earlier and im now on hold again and have been past through 3 departments in the last 67 minutes and still no closer to correcting my issue and refuse to call me back!

Avoid Scottish Power

I have been with Scottish Power since moving house last summer. It was fitted with prepayment meters for gas and electricity both with Scottish Power. It has been one problem after another starting with delays sending out the new card and key and then sending duplicates. Due to their extortionate charges to switch my account to direct debit meters I decided to switch to British Gas. I now have an outstanding bill for fifty pounds, which Scottish Power says I owe them because I didn’t give meter readings when I switched. I don’t see how I can owe them money as I was prepaying and now I can’t backdate the meter reading. I’m disgusted with their customer service. The staff are polite on the phone however nothing gets resolved and next time I phone none of the details have been logged.

Appalling Company

I have a house which was vacant for nearly a year before I decided to let it. When I went to read the meters, the electricity meter was blank. I then went back over my bills and noticed that they had read my gas meter but estimated my electricity since Sept 2014. I asked them is there any way they would only read one meter and they said no, so my only possible assumption is that my electricity meter failed ages ago, the reader knew, but did nothing about it. I noticed my bill drop from over 200 pounds per month to 69 pounds per month and assumed they were reading is, but actually they were clearly only reading the gas.I contacted them about it, got lots of run around and errors on their, but finally, the gist is, they say I can’t prove the house was vacant. I said look at the change in gas usage, they said these things can happen. It seems that I can’t prove to their satisfaction that I had an empty house and didn’t use the electricity. What seems amazing to me, is that I would have thought that without a meter, they can’t prove I had anything. My errors were:i) I was quite happy to be largely in credit and sort the situation out with a final reading
ii) I assumed I would have a working meter to read! They even mocked me on the phone for not having bothered to check during the year, I would have thought not minding them having my money for a year was a pretty relaxed way to be.

Notes:

You will not get satisfaction on the phone from them, they promised to review, but actually that’s just stalling. Once they have your money they won’t give it back.

I called British Gas, they said, if they can’t read a meter because it’s faulty how can they bill you.

I would have accepted that they would make a sensible calculation based on the obvious vast change in gas usage, but they regard their estimates as fixed unless you can prove otherwise.

How on earth can I do that when THEIR meter has failed?!?

Appalling

Do not go near this company, totally incapable of even managing to send out correct bills, appalling customer service and actually incompetent at anything. I have never experienced anything like it and am shocked they are even allowed to trade !!!!!
Published 23 April 2015

The worst experience I’ve ever had.

If you have any kind of a problem, you will not be able to reach a customer support representative. They put you through some questioners and other useless stuff, and at the end you will be given a phone number. Then you call them, they don’t reply in 30 minutes, then someone answers the phone, and puts you through to another person, then the same thing happens. At the end, after spending an hour of bothering to call them, you will be contacted via noreply email notifying you that the issue is not sorted. The only thing you can do, is call them again, and go through the same procedure. Your phone bill will be higher then you electricity bill. They don’t do research of your account before emailing you, the don’t have accounts on you. Maybe like a team of one person is working there to reply all customers that they have. Completely annoying.

ABSOLUTELY AWFUL. NEVER DEAL WITH THEM!

The most poor customer service amongst all the companies I’ve dealt with. They owe me £300 in credit, and I’ve been waiting for the refund for over 7 months now. They give some rubbish replies, which don’t make any sense and never get back to you! Lack of management, no professionalism. I wonder how they still keep their place in the market. They should really be ashamed for deceiving their customers!

terrible – believe the reviews

Below is a message I just sent to Scottish Power which sums up how we feel…. We have been with them for only 4 weeks and are now leaving. You have the worst customer service policy I have ever experienced. As a new customer we took a day off today to wait in for an engineer to change our economy 7 meter to a normal one only to be told a variety of stories including that the engineer may be replacing a gas main(!) when we asked what time the engineer may be with us. Apparently they work until 8pm according to one of your customer service assistants whereas another told us that if they weren’t there by 4pm then they wont be there. When asked if we could talk to a manager we were told the equivalent of ‘computer says no’ – we were told that a manager does not want to talk to us, even when we said we were leaving. We have never felt so fobbed off, discarded and generally ingorned. And we have dealt with BT!!!I don’t know if you know David Brent but even he has better sales and customer sevice manners than you.We will never be a SP customer on the basis of this experience and intend to let everyone we know (and via social media everyone we don’t) about this experience and your general lack of interest.

Please note that none of this is directed at the individuals at the end of the phone but rather the policies you have in place that they have to follow.

You have a lot of work to do.

Lax and parochial service by UK standards

Very poor customer service, Scottish Power does not seem to have evolved since the 1980’s when it was commonplace and acceptable to treat customers with contempt. Spent many hours on the phone without actually being able to speak to anybody and sent numerous e-mails to get my issue of a central heating servicing visit resolved. Scottish Power just ignored its own charter for addressing consumer dissatisfaction and complaints. Issue has been going round and round in circles for months. Gained the impression that as a customer, I was very low down on this company’s list of priorities. On the contrary, just small fry not meriting any of the established courtesies between customer and supplier. Anyway, I do have an exit button coming up shortly and will most certainly press it.

Call Centre with no Managers

Have rang Scottish Power four times today and each time when I questioned the information I was given, I asked to put through to a manager. The answer was you will have to email a complaint in first before you can speak to a manager. What a company. The query I have is that Scottish Power are saying that the meter that I wish to be moved is not there problem, has been told it is UK Power Network, Eon and EDF. The cable move is UK Power Network agreed but the Meter well Citizens Advice thinks its Scottish Power and so do I. Or have I making payments to the wrong company. Been told to wait Five days by Citizens Advice then they will take action.

COMPLETELY USELESS

I have been trying to get Scottish Power to register my new property since moving in 10 months ago. When the property was handed over to me I was given all the contact details to register my new home and introduce an account for direct debit billing. I have spent hours and hours trying to arrange this and 10 months on I still have no account and haven’t paid a penny to anyone for gas and electricity. I have spoken to dozens of people and I have been passed from pillar to post. On many occasions I have found the phone go dead after I have been on the phone for half an hour at a time.
I desperation I have started emailing as I really cannot afford the time to be on the phone getting nowhere. I have received emails back advising that I will receive responses within 5 working days. Guess what I have never received a response. I emailed the Complaints Dept begging them to sort this out. Absolute rubbish

We moved into the new property this February. There were smart meters installed for both gas and electricity. We also found prepayment cards from Utilita. I rang Utilita as we couldn’t find any holes on the meters to insert top up cards into. Utilita told me our supplier is Scottish Power. I rang Scottish Power just to find out they aren’t supplying anything to this address. Then I rang UK Power. They ensured me Scottish Power IS OUR SUPPLIER. I made several phone calls to Scottish Power and after long explanations and several transfers to different advisors they admitted they are our electricity supplier and promised to send us a confirmation letter which they did. It was an account confirmation with account number on it. But it was only for electricity so I rang them up again.
I’ve spent around 4 hours trying to resolve the issue. Spoke to 10 different advisors and each advisor would tell me the different story.
Finally they agreed to change our meters as Smart Meters wouldn’t let us take any proper meter readings. Scottish Power promised that engineer will call me and arrange an appointment and both meters will be changed within one week.
Of course, nobody contacted me and I had to ring them again. Booked an appointment and had to wait for a month. Engineer arrived and changed electricity meter two days ago. I rang Scottish Power to find out what is going on with gas meter just to find out they don’t know and had to start the whole thing again: few hours on hold, 4 different advisors, long explanations and no result so far. They promised their manager will give me a call tomorrow but I do not trust them anymore.
Its been three months since I contacted them first, gas issue is not solved and I’ll have to pay an estimated bill because of their stupidity.STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY AS THEY ARE INCOMPETENT TIME WASTERS.

HOW MUCH MONEY HAS 17 MILLION YOUTUBE VIEWS PAID WOLVOMAN80?

HOW MUCH MONEY HAS 17 MILLION YOUTUBE VIEWS PAID WOLVOMAN80?

The answer is NOTHING! Although YouTube Stats show that they owe me about $300. I are yet to receive one single penny for my videos despite YouTube placing ads before my videos and on the sidebar. Why? Google’s greed mean they make at least half of it and Sony, Freemantle, BBC, News corporation claim full ownership on my full length and homemade videos and Google pay them, I get nothing! On the advise of a local solicitor that specializes in copyright laws. I have requested a full breakdown of YouTube income of my videos, YouTube ignored me, in fact they ignore EVERY email I send despite my bullshit “YOUTUBE PARTNER” status that should allow full email support.

Now YouTube want me to agree to new terms and conditions!

This part caught my attention;

In order to earn or receive payment of any revenues hereunder, you must at all times have an active AdSense account associated with your YouTube user account(s) (or such other payment method as required by YouTube). YouTube does not owe you for any revenues that may be associated with your Content during any period in which you do not have a valid method of payment.

Does this mean that by applying for payment I lose all previous YouTube earnings?

9

FULL TERMS AND CONDITIONS.

Together with the YouTube Terms of Service and the YouTube Partner Program Policies (each of which may be updated from time to time and are incorporated herein by reference), the following YouTube Partner Program Terms apply to your participation in the YouTube Partner Program (the “Terms”). Please read the Terms carefully. If you do not understand or accept any part of these Terms, you should not upload Content for monetization on YouTube.

  1. Monetization Revenues. YouTube will pay you as follows:
    1. Advertising Revenues. YouTube will pay you 55% of net revenues recognized by YouTube from ads displayed or streamed by YouTube or an authorized third party on your Content watch pages or in or on the YouTube video player in conjunction with the streaming of your Content. YouTube is not obligated to display any advertisements alongside your videos and may determine the type and format of ads available on the YouTube Service. For clarity, YouTube reserves the right to retain all other revenues derived from the YouTube service, including any revenues relating to ads on search result pages.
    2. Subscription Revenues. YouTube will pay you 55% of the total net revenues recognized by YouTube from subscription fees that are attributable to the monthly views or watchtime of your Content as a percentage of the monthly views or watchtime of all or a subset of participating content in the relevant subscription offering (as determined by YouTube). If your Content is included in and viewed by a user in multiple subscription offerings, YouTube will pay you based on the subscription offering with the highest amount of net revenues recognized by YouTube, as calculated by YouTube.
  2. Payment Account Requirement.
  3. Payment Terms, Limitations and Taxes. YouTube will pay you for any revenues due within approximately sixty (60) days after the end of any calendar month, so long as your earned balance is at least US $100 (or its equivalent in local currency) at the time payment is due. You are not entitled to earn or receive any revenues in connection with your Content in any of the following circumstances: (a) if one or more third parties claim rights to certain elements of your Content except in cases where YouTube’s policies or systems support sharing a portion of the revenues with you, as determined by YouTube; (b) if monetization is disabled on your Content by either you or YouTube; or (c) your participation in the YouTube Partner Program is suspended or terminated pursuant to Section 4 below. YouTube will use reasonable efforts to notify you if any of these circumstances should occur.
  4. Termination. Either party may terminate these Terms for convenience with 30 days prior written notice to the other (including via electronic means). YouTube may either suspend or terminate your participation in the YouTube Partner Program immediately upon written notice (including via electronic means) if YouTube reasonably determines or suspects that you have violated these Terms. For clarity, in the event of any termination of these Terms the YouTube Terms of Service will survive and continue to apply to your use of the YouTube service.
  5. Governing Law. The governing law and dispute resolution provisions of the YouTube Terms of Service will also apply to these Terms.
  6. Miscellaneous. Capitalized terms used but not defined in these Terms will have the meanings given to such terms in the YouTube Terms of Service. These Terms replace all previous or current agreements between you and YouTube relating to the YouTube Partner Program, including any prior monetization agreements that are in effect between you and YouTube as of the effective date. Except as modified by these Terms, the YouTube Terms of Service remain in full force and effect. YouTube’s right to modify or revise the Terms of Service (as described in the YouTube Terms of Service) will also apply to these Terms.

ALI

Vietnam War and resistance to the draft

In 1964, Ali failed the U.S. Armed Forces qualifying test because his writing and spelling skills were sub-par (he was quoted as saying, “I said I was the greatest, not the smartest!”).[94] However, in early 1966, the tests were revised and Ali was reclassified as 1A.[20] This classification meant he was now eligible for the draft and induction into the United States Army during a time when the U.S. was involved in the Vietnam War.

When notified of this status, Ali declared that he would refuse to serve in the Army and publicly considered himself a conscientious objector.[20] Ali stated: “War is against the teachings of the Holy Qur’an. I’m not trying to dodge the draft. We are not supposed to take part in no wars unless declared by Allah or The Messenger. We don’t take part in Christian wars or wars of any unbelievers.” More succinctly and famously he said, “I ain’t got no quarrel with them Viet Cong – no Viet Cong ever called me Nigger.” The statement articulated, for many people, a reason to oppose the war.[95]

Appearing for his scheduled induction into the U.S. Armed Forces on April 28, 1967 in Houston, Ali refused three times to step forward at the call of his name. An officer warned him he was committing a felony punishable by five years in prison and a fine of $10,000. Once more, Ali refused to budge when his name was called. As a result, he was arrested. On the same day the New York State Athletic Commission suspended his boxing license and stripped him of his title. Other boxing commissions followed suit. Ali would not be able to obtain a license to box in any state for over three years.[96]

At the trial on June 20, 1967, after only 21 minutes of deliberation, the jury found Ali guilty.[20] After a Court of Appeals upheld the conviction, the case went to the U.S. Supreme Court.

In the years between the appellate court decision and the Supreme Court verdict, Ali remained free. As public opinion began turning against the war and the Civil Rights movement continued to gather momentum, Ali became a popular speaker at colleges and universities across the country, rare if not unprecedented for a boxer. At Howard University, for example, he gave his popular “Black Is Best” speech to 4,000 cheering students and community intellectuals, after he was invited to speak by sociology professor Nathan Hare on behalf of the Black Power Committee, a student protest group.[97][98]

On June 28, 1971, the Supreme Court in Clay v. United States overturned Ali’s conviction by a unanimous 8-0 decision (Justice Thurgood Marshall did not participate).[99] The decision was not based on, nor did it address, the merits of Ali’s claims per se; rather, the Court held that since the Appeal Board gave no reason for the denial of a conscientious objector exemption to Ali, and that it was therefore impossible to determine which of the three basic tests for conscientious objector status offered in the Justice Department’s brief that the Appeals Board relied on, Ali’s conviction must be reversed.[100]

Impact of Ali’s stance

Ali’s example inspired countless black Americans and others. New York Times columnist William Rhoden wrote, “Ali’s actions changed my standard of what constituted an athlete’s greatness. Possessing a killer jump shot or the ability to stop on a dime was no longer enough. What were you doing for the liberation of your people? What were you doing to help your country live up to the covenant of its founding principles?” [9]

Recalling Ali’s anti-war position, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar said: “I remember the teachers at my high school didn’t like Ali because he was so anti-establishment and he kind of thumbed his nose at authority and got away with it. The fact that he was proud to be a Black man and that he had so much talent … made some people think that he was dangerous. But for those very reasons I enjoyed him.”[101]

Ali inspired Martin Luther King, Jr., who had been reluctant to address the Vietnam War for fear of alienating the Johnson Administration and its support of the civil rights agenda. Now, King began to voice his own opposition to the war for the first time.[102]

In speaking of the cost on Ali’s career of his refusal to be drafted, his trainer Angelo Dundee said, “One thing must be taken into account when talking about Ali: He was robbed of his best years, his prime years.”[103]

Ali’s resistance to the draft was covered in the 2013 documentary The Trials of Muhammad Ali.
